Remedial Listening Fitness Programs are designed for children and adults who can benefit from better learning language, communication and motor skills. This Program also improves reading, attention span, balance and coordination, speech and social skills. It is provided by LIFT Instructors whose main specialty is either: special education occupational therapy or speech therapy.

This LIFT Program helps improve:

• sound discrimination & auditory processing
• reading, spelling & handwriting
• attention span, & concentration
• motivation & self-esteem
• speech & motor control
• flow in learning

A person's suitability for a Listening Fitness Program begins with a Listening Fitness Evaluation with a LIFT Instructor who will assess the Listening Profile of the candidate. Progress expectations and the length of the program required to reach those goals are also evaluated.

A sound stimulation program (music and voice) is then designed. The program consists of 2 parts: a 'Receptive phase", where, by listening to filtered music the processing of sounds is improved, and an "Expressive phase", where control over our voice and body through voice exercises is put forward.

During the Receptive phase, children and adults listen with headphones to pre-recorded Chant and filtered Mozart music modified by the LIFT equipment. Children can play while adults are free to paint, read or sleep. No concentration is required during this part of the LIFT Program. During the Expressive phase, children and adults listen to their own voice. Formal self-listening exercises like chanting or reading out loud or informal exercises like songs, nursery rhymes, private out loud speech, socio-dramatic play & story telling, are part of the daily Training. This part of the program strengthens ear-body-voice control loop.

Close monitoring and guidance are provided throughout the program by the LIFT Instructor.

The Sound Program may be intensive or non-intensive:

  • Intensive: A faster sound program consisting of 60 hours to be completed as follows: 30 hours in 15 days, followed by a 4 week
break, and another 30 hours in 15 days (2 hours/day).
  • Non-intensive: A slower sound program consisting of 60 hours of sound stimulation to be completed as follows: 60 hours in 60 days without interruption - 1 hour/day.

All programs are monitored through follow-up questionnaires and telephone or personal interviews for a 5 month period upon completion of the program. Exercises and short listening training "boosts" may also be recommended.
