Listening Fitness roots

The ability to tune in and tune out at will to the sounds around us, is a fundamental human skill. Whether language, communication skills, attention, self-regulation, reading, writing, speaking, singing or acting – all depend on "fit" listening. Our well being, energy level, motivation and ability to relate to others are also closely connected to our listening ability.

There are two aspects of Listening: Ear-Body Connection and Ear-Voice Connection.

It is an educational technique that uses pre-recorded music, rich in high frequency, and our own voice to develop, improve and enrich listening skills. The unique feature of Listening Fitness is the LiFT (Listening Fitness Trainer), a portable audio-device, with rechargeable battery pack, designed for listening and voice training. The LiFT attaches to an MP3 player (or CDman) and headset with microphone.

Listening Fitness has its roots in the work of Dr. Alfred Tomatis, a French ear, nose and throat specialist, who developed the first method of listening training using sound stimulation.

They are for people of all ages and adapted to individual needs. They are provided by trained and certified Listening Fitness Instructors, who are professionals that include the listening dimension as part of their practice or teaching facility (school).

There are two types of Listening Fitness Programs: remedial and skill-enhancement programs.

If you wish to benefit from a LiFT Program, contact a LiFT Instructor in your region.

For those who wish to become a LiFT instructor, you can read on the Course and Certification for Instructors.
